Wholehearted Christian living

At our excellent Leaders’ morning in January, Jonathan Fletcher encouraged us from the prophet Malachi to be leaders who do three things:

1. Listen to the voice of God

The priests were warned by God that “If you do not listen, and if you do not set your heart to honour my name, I will curse you.” (Malachi 2:2)

We can only teach if we have first listened intently to God’s word. There is one thing worse than being a sinner, and that is being a stumbling block to others. Am I spending quality time with God each day, reading his word?

2. Honour God’s name

Levi “revered me and stood in awe of my name.” (2:5)

Billy Graham once said that he was “prepared to go anywhere and do anything for God’s sake.” What motivates us as we serve in the church? My fulfilment or God’s glory?

3. Live holy lives

It was said of Levi that “True instruction was in his mouth and nothing false was found on his lips. He walked with me in peace and uprightness, and turned many from sin.” (2:6)

It was said of one Christian leader that “his life could bear inspection at every point.” Is my life marked by integrity?

Great challenges and great questions for all Christians, including those of us who are leaders.
