Sundays for children
Children are part of the body of Christ and an essential part of St Michael’s church. They are the church of today and we aim to equip them to be the church of tomorrow.
Sunday Mornings
The Sunday Morning Service at 10.30am aims to meet the needs of all ages, including children and young people.
The children spend fifteen minutes in the service before going to their respective groups. Before they leave there are Children’s songs and opportunities for children to be involved
in other ways, for example by welcoming people at the door with their families and taking the collection.
Building relationships is a key component of the children’s ministry; each child is unique and valued for their
individuality. Before and after the service groups of children and adults spend time playing, chatting and having snacks together. The sessions are also an excellent opportunity to develop positive relationships.
Each group is led by two trusted individuals who have had CRB checks. The groups encompass age related activities which are multi sensory, and always include Christian teaching, prayer and games. The teaching, however may take several different forms including quizzes, reading, visual demonstrations, music, memory verses or drama. We encourage children to be as involved as possible - this helps the children to be engaged, learn and have more fun.
The groups are as follows:
- Crèche: 0-2 year olds
- Wanderers: 2-4 year olds
- Trekkers 5-7 year olds
- Climbers: 8-10 year olds
- Explorers: 11 - 13 year olds

Volunteering
Those who spend time with the children are hugely
valued. Volunteering enables you to learn and grow in different ways; it can be great fun and very rewarding.
As a volunteer you can choose to lead or help someone
out. Leading involves preparing and running the session. Helping involves supporting the leader but there is little or no preparation involved. It takes some time for the leader to prepare for a session but resources are provided including a comprehensive session plan.
If you would like to volunteer please contact Miriam
Goodacre (see above).
