Children can play a key role in the body of Christ and are an essential part of St Michael’s church. They are the church of today and we aim to equip them to be the church of tomorrow.
The Sunday Morning Service at 10.30 am aims to meet the needs of all ages, including children and young people.
The children spend fifteen minutes in the service before going to their respective groups. Before they leave there are Children’s songs, sometimes a children’s talk and opportunities for children to be involved in other ways, for example by welcoming people at the door with their families and taking the collection.
The leaders for each group aim to open up, teach and reinforce a Bible passage in all sorts of multi-sensory creative ways. We encourage children to be as involved as possible – this helps the children to be engaged, learn and have more fun. Each group is led by two trusted individuals who have had DBS checks.
Building relationships is a key component of the children’s ministry; each child is unique and valued for their individuality. Before and after the service groups of children and adults spend time playing, chatting and having snacks together. The sessions are also an excellent opportunity to develop positive relationships.
The groups are as follows:
- Crèche: 0-2 years old
- Wanderers: 2-4 years old
- Trekkers: Reception-School Year 1
- Climbers: School Years 2-3
- Explorers: School Years 4-6
- Rock Solid: School Years 7-8
